A Day Out With Thomas The Train - Nashville, TN ($$)

Our Guest Reviewer for this post is Crystal Putty.  She has lived in the area all her life.  Crystal is married, has a 3 year old son and works outside the home.

If your child adores Thomas like mine does, this is an event you must attend. "Day Out with Thomas" was in Nashville for 2 weekends. We went to the 2nd weekend, September 6th.

The venue was easy to find, as it was pretty close to the interstate. Parking was a little overwhelming. Traffic guards were present, but there just wasn't enough of them to be effective, but we ended up not having to park too far away.

There was a booth at the front entrance where you could purchase tickets if you hadn't already done so. If you had, then you could just pick them up at the same booth. It was a speedy process.

Everything was divided up into stations. There was a station where kids could take their picture with Sir Toppham Hat. Other stations included a play area under a tent where at least a dozen train tables were set up for kids to have free play, and a story time/dvd area where kids could watch a Thomas dvd. A mini-train, similar to ones you see at malls, was giving kids a very short ride in a circle. Also, there was a magician, petting zoo, & bouncers.

We were expecting the train to be an actual "Thomas" & maybe the other cars in similar theme. However, when we boarded we couldn't see the cart that looked like Thomas. The train was older & rustic, very clean, & had air (which was great)! The seats were comfortable & the windows were large for nice viewing availability. If you listened closely, you could hear the "Thomas" theme song playing over the loud speaker. The route took us through a brushy area, but brought us out by the Cumberland where LP Field was visible. I expected the ride to be much longer, but it only last about 20 minutes.

Last, but not least, was the gift shop. This was a huge area in doors (but no A/C, just fans) & was very well laid out. Anything & everything "Thomas" you could imagine was for sell; beach towels, backpacks, shirts, hundreds of toys, etc. An enormous working train display was set up with tiny trains, people, miniature towns & trees. This was probably one of my son's favorites of the day!

It costs $70 for my husband, son, & I to go, so it's just a little pricey. I would have liked to have seen more food vendors. Popcorn, lemonade, & water were the only things available. We did appreciate the fact they had dozens of boxes of squeezy fruit snacks available for the kids for FREE.

Overall, the experience was awesome & I would recommend to anyone!

Tips:

1. If you bring a stroller, make sure it is a smaller one & easy to maneuver through small crowds.

2. If you attend during the summer, make sure you book online ASAP & try for an early train ride to avoid excessive heat!

3. Eat before you come because there is limited snacks & no meal options.
