Fall has always been one of my favorite times of year. After Labor Day the shadows start elongating in the afternoons, combines start rolling in the corn, dark fired tobacco smoke is lingering in the air, pumpkin spice everything starts showing up and for the second year in a row, Hay Creatures start popping up over Todd County.
2015 is the second year for the Todd County Community Alliance's Bale Trail, which in conjunction with the annual Harvest Festival held the first Saturday of October, really gets everyone in the mood for all things fall.
I'm not sure who had the ingenious idea of bringing the Bale Trail to Todd County, but I think it's a lot of fun and something very unique to the area. In researching ideas for our own Bale Trail creation online I did stumble across something similar they do in Montana, but this is the only one I've seen in this part of the world!
For those of you in the surrounding area, it's our way of getting you to spend a day or afternoon in our little slice of heaven. In a post I wrote earlier this year about the Amish in the area, there's much more to do and see in Todd County than most people realize. This gives you another opportunity to incorporate several of our gems into a trip back here in the fall.
The Bale Trail creations are up from September 14th through the end of October as long as the weather treats them well, so plan on coming to tour our critters sooner than later. Maps come out today so you can plot your tour and weave around some gorgeous parts of our county and enjoy the country.
The Maps can be found HERE.
The link to the addresses for the 31 different displays this year can be found and printed out HERE.
Everyone is welcome to stop at each creation and take their pictures with them, the kids especially love this. Just please don't harm the hay critters!
The map can be found here, along with many other great ideas on things to do while in Todd County on our Explore Todd County Website. I've added a few other "must see" options to stop in at while you are touring our Hay Bale Creations to make it a memorable experience.
FOOD:
I've mentioned time and time again the L&R Soda Shop that is located on the town square in Elkton and a great place to grab lunch while in the area, and of course Schlabach's bakery to take home some fresh baked yumminess, but there's a new restaurant in the county that I've been pretty impressed with! You must go by the Black Sheep Bistro that is new in Trenton, KY that specialized in BBQ but with a bit of a gourmet flair.....which suits me just fine! When BBQ accompanies other treats such as couscous and panini's on the menu, I'm pretty happy about that. Their smoked mac and cheese is pretty fabulous as well and they are open for Breakfast and Lunch till 2 Monday-Saturday.
SHOPPING:
If you do take my advice and try the Black Sheep Bistro, there's a few other shops in Trenton that you can pop into while in town. For any quilting enthusiasts, there's Quilt and Sew at Golden Threads to browse fabric and other quilting necessities. Yesteryear Antiques has also opened just around the corner from the Bistro and always worth a stroll through!
BALE TRAIL:
There are 31 entries this year and from the one's I've seen thus far, they are great! I'm not going to spoil all the various ones, but I will post the one we've put up at Todd County Moms, our Dispic'hay'ble Me Minion and the one at the Welcome Center as you come into Elkton on the town square. Be sure to visit all 31!

How brilliant fall festival!! Those sculptures are looking juts stunning. I am so glad to see these photos. Actually I always attend the annual fall fest at local New York venues but this year I couldn’t attend that just because of some official work.
